Marianne Nieuwenhuijze stond, als lector Midwifery, aan de wieg van het onderzoeksdomein van de fysiologische verloskunde in Nederland. Haar interesse voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek en de onderbouwing van het verloskundige beleid werd al gewekt toen zij nog werkzaam was in de eerstelijns verloskundige praktijk.
In haar carrière heeft Marianne verschillende posities vervuld. Zij heeft verschillende posities bekleed in de verloskundige praktijk, zij is betrokken bij de ontwikkeling van het onderwijs bij de AVM en was lid van de landelijke richtlijncommissie VIL, een samenwerking tussen de KNOV, NVOG, NHG en NVK. Daarnaast participeert ze, aanvankelijk als lector Midwifery maar sinds 1 oktober 2020 ook als hoogleraar Midwifery/Fysiologische Verloskunde, in zowel nationale als internationale onderzoeken en netwerken. Verder is zij de officiële Nederlandse afgevaardigde in de European COST-action: Childbirth - Cultures, Concerns and Consequences.

Inauguratie lector

Inauguratie hoogleraar

Op 1 oktober 2020 is Marianne Nieuwenhuijze benoemd tot hoogleraar Midwifery/Fysiologische Verloskunde bij de Universiteit Maastricht.
