Op 26 mei 2011 hield professor Raymond de Vries zijn inaugurele redegetiteld 'Midwives, obstetrics, fear and trust. A four-part invention'. Hiermee accepteerde de hoogleraar zijn leerstoel aan de Academie Verloskunde Maastricht.

Prof.dr. Raymond de Vries is door Zuyd aangesteld als hoogleraar bij de Universiteit Maastricht. Beide instituten werken nauw samen aan de verwetenschappelijking van het verloskundig kennisdomein.

Prof.dr. Raymond de Vries is gedurende enkele maanden per jaar aanwezig op de AVM in Maastricht. In zijn afwezigheid begeleidt hij het lectoraat Midwifery Science vanuit de Verenigde Staten.
