internship supervision

Practice shows that specific knowledge and skills are required to adequately supervise midwifery students. For this reason, the knowledge centre offers the course ‘Internship supervision’. The course is suitable for new AVMU internship supervisors and also for supervisors who followed the course a number of years ago. New curricula are explained and you will learn to work with new materials. The revised course also links well to the institute’s competence-based learning approach. This approach is challenging for some internship supervisors, but they soon notice positive results. Students have also indicated that they now receive better supervision.

Objectives
On completion of the course, you will have learned to:

  • supervise and assess interns’ learning processes while taking into account the level and experience of the student and any internal training assignments given by the institute;
  • set your own boundaries in supervising difficult cases, and where necessary to ask the institute for assistance.

Target group
All current and future internship supervisors at the University of Midwifery Education and Studies in Maastricht.

During the course, it is important that you are supervising an intern. For this reason, the course has been linked to two internship periods and will be linked to an assignment in which you supervise two AVMU students from different study years. You are responsible for arranging for these interns yourself but you can do this in consultation with the internship secretary.
